Panel discussion on how U.S. and Japanese leaders can assess the situation and work together for the way forward.

Japan Leadership Symposium

On May 30th, 2011 the U.S.-Japan Council held its first official event in Japan: The Japan Leadership Symposium: “Defining a New Paradigm for U.S.-Japan Relations."

As Japan recovers and rebuilds from the earthquake, tsunami and nuclear crisis in the Northeast region, it is imperative for leaders in the U.S. and Japan to assess the situation and to work together for the way forward. The Japan Leadership Symposium brings together leaders in the U.S. and Japan to reaffirm the relationship between the two countries, not only to address present challenges, but also to ensure that Japan’s strengths are recognized worldwide.

As a panelist discussing “Positioning Japan in the New Global Paradigm”, COSMO CEO Kumi Sato made the following comments:

"People need to understand that Japan is safe. This must be communicated. We are all living here and doing our jobs. The business/private sector can play a big role in communicating this message. Even if a corporation is promoting itself, proactive positive information is better than no information. We must be proactive and flood the world with positive stories and information about rebuilding efforts in Japan."
