The American Medical Devices and Diagnostic Manufacturers’ Association (AMDD) published a patient essay book titled “I’m glad I chose this treatment. Essays from patients who chose advanced treatment (translation of Japanese title).” The book is a collection of essays and patient stories illustrating the improvement in patients’ quality of life as a result of access to advanced medical technology. In May 2009, 2000 copies were disseminated to the PMDA, journalists, physicians, public libraries, patient groups and the general public.
The AMDD represents the Japanese operations of 62 companies that provide medical devices and in-vitro diagnostics (IVD) and other advanced medical technology in Japan. This activity was supported by the Public Awareness Committee which runs the Value of Advanced Medical Technology campaign. The objective of the campaign is to improve the availability of the latest advanced medical technologies to Japanese patients and health care providers in Japan.
